Electronic Upgrades From Me to Me

recently I’ve had the pleasure of upgrading a number of components that make up my technological setup.

First upgrade:
New Video Card! Nvidia GeForce 8600GT – This card is so much better than my old7300 that I still can’t properly convey my emotions towards it – this card is amazing and handles my next upgrade quite nicely.

Second upgrade:
New Monitor and Stands! OK I’m used to an 1024×768 resolution so when I upgraded from my little old 15″ (which was accompanied by a 19″ WS) to a 22″ beast I was estatic! This thing is so big it makes my 19″ WS look like a dwarf — I also splurged on some nice Neo-Flex adjustable monitor stands — (pictures after)

Third upgrade:
A smooth charcoal black xbox 360 elite–I know your jealous; I would be too if I didn’t already have one :) Runs like a dream and I couldn’t help but notice how nice it looked next to my all black PC case.

Fourth upgrade:
the best and newest toy I feel in love with would be the device that just happened to take all the wonderful pictures in this post. This wonderful gadget is like the meaning of life to me and I am proud to introduce everyone to my new Blackberry Curve–I know the curve has been out for awhile and I know that the newest Blackberry would in fact be the Bold, but you have to understand that my old phone (picture later) was just so inadequate that I couldn’t wait for the Bold. So I am now happily involved with this dark gray/black Blackberry Curve.

Those are my latest and greatest upgrades and now for pictures with caption!

Moola!

Moola is a new website in beta testing that is basically: play to win. You bet (risk) money to win the same amount of money you’ve bet (risked). You start out with a penny (yeah that’s right a ****ing penny) and the concept is that you double your penny 30 or so times to get to the top of the Moola tower that is 10 million $$$. Of course you can cash out at any time as long as you have more than $10 saved up and you recieve your check in the mail in a week or 2. You do have to activate your account before you can cash out though using text messaging through your cell phone but that really isn’t too bad.

If you want to check it out I have a few invites left so clicky the linky!

Vista Released! Plans For New Notebook Computer

Microsoft Windows Vista has finally hit the shelves and not surprisingly our wallets. The new OS comes in 4 varieties, Home Basic – Home Premium – Business – Ultimate. I will not post any of the prices here but it really shouldn’t be that hard to find out now. I will post a link to a comparison chart defining the different features of the various editions though. I will tell everyone who hasn’t read my older posts about Vista Business that I got it for free about 1 1/2 months ago from my class’ MSDN subscription :) I for one love the new operation system and have had no problems getting my Nvidia video card working.

Now on to my new laptop that I have yet to perchase! I am in need of a new laptop for the next school year. I’ll be a senior (yay…) I need a laptop that can handle Photoshop CS2 and Dreamweaver..but that shouldn’t be a problem. I think it’s safe to assume that it will come loaded with one of the Vista editions but I may be wrong :) (yeah right!) Any who I’ll probably be buying from IBuyPower.com again since my last pc (the one I’m using now) is still running without any problems what so ever. If anyone has a better idea of where I can get a better notebook from let me know. I have aprox. $1700 to spend.

Dual Monitors w/ UltraMon in Windows Vista

As I wrote in my last post I purchased a new 19″ widescreen LCD for my pc because to be honest, one 15″-er just doesn’t cut it anymore and it was time for a change. I decided to buy this one because last week it was on sell for $179.99 with free 3 day shiping. Now the sell is gone but it was right up my ally at the time. You can see the type/brand/model I got from newegg here. The 500+ reviews of excellence helped aid me in my decision as well.

Upon arriving (fantastic delivery from NewEgg.com) I set up the new WS and took off! It was great until about 30 minutes later when I brought back my little 15″-er and decided to try out dual monitors. I had been reading about dual monitors and from what I read it was the only way to go so I jumped on it. 15 minutes later I had dual monitors. I found out about UltraMon from www.lifehacker.com – in an article about dual monitors increasing productivity (article here). I didn’t purchase the software I’m using the trail version which is all I really need right now.

I must say that dual monitors are amazing! Even if you don’t use it for anything other than to gain more desktop space. I love to work with Photoshop and Dreamweaver and dual monitors are an absolute blessing when coding and previewing my work as soon as I make a change. I can play all my online games and still have chat programs going if only to see what others are doing during loading times. Or watching a movie on my 19″ but still have my email up just incase someone sends important information. I also spent less time on my homework because I didn’t have to constantly switch windows and tabs while trying to type out the assignment.

Busy Busy Busy

Wow, it has been a long time since I last posted. Unfortunately there will not be any youtube stuff today in this post. I have been extremely busy relaxing away on winter break! Here are a few highlights of my vacation.

I am officially 17 years old as of the 23rd of Dec.

I have successfully opened a checking account and started direct deposit at my job.

I have a new lava lamp that I love dearly.

I have just purchased a new 19″ LCD Widescreen Monitor yesterday from Newegg.com.

That’s about it so I’m going to go and sleep the rest of my vacation away :)

Why! Why! Why!

In my government class, I’ve been instructed to complete three letters address to people who are of high influence or hold government positions.  In these letters I am only allowed to ask three questions each.  The following are the questions I’ve come up with:

  • Why are elected officials allowed to vote themselves raises?
  • Why does Oklahoma pay so little wage wise, but the taxes keep going up?
  • How does the state made sure welfare parents are taking care of their children and providing for them?
  • Why doesn’t the majority of welfare go to the elderly or less able individuals?
  • Why is it easier to care for animals than it is for humans?
  • Why do the fire departments, police stations, and public schools receive less from taxes than anyone else?
  • Why is there a difference in sentencing laws for people who use crack and those who use cocaine?
  • Why is there imminent domain?
  • What is the government doing about the voting system?

Those are all the questions I came up with, some came from my parents, and some came from my teacher.  If you would like to add onto the list of questions, put them in the comments and they will be duly added

Windows Vista Business Edition!

Yesterday in my Network Security administration class I received windows vista and installed it on my computer.

I had a few problems, such as installing drivers and connecting to the Internet. After I got around those little things, everything else was a piece of cake and now everything works fine.:)

In fact, I’m using Windows Vista’s new speech recognition tool to type out this entire article! It is a very useful tool indeed.  There are a lot of commands to learn and I have to pronounce everything very clearly.  If I do not pronounce everything clearly, then I would be constantly correcting myself.;)

But as you can see it’s working out pretty OK, I have to double check and correct things.  It was very slow at first but I quickly got used to it.  Now I’m more used to using the speech recognition tools.

I still have a lot to learn but I’m learning fast!

Windows Vista

I don’t know much about windows vista except it looks pretty and does tricks. I do know that my Network Security and Administration class is supposed to get the New release of Vista: Ultimate on Dec. 7th. Now I’ve done the little “does your pc support vista?” thing offered on microsoft.com and my pc checks out, I was just wondering if Vista is really worth getting so soon after release since Microsoft has a bit of a bad reputation with bugs and such when launching new OS’s. Now here is Youtube!!
